Exotic Design; More Appealing Than Ever!

Color911 Exotic Design

Exotic design is becoming more and more popular. What I am seeing is a wider variety of bold colors, unusual textures and materials such as beads in all forms of design. I am inspired by what I have seen in the stores, seeing a wide variety of decorative elements every day. I’m seeing more and more creative and colorful designs.

Beads look great in fashion items, such as shawls and jewelry from around the world, but this is also a fantastic way to add color to your home. Beaded cushions and hanging decorations can be used to add accents to any room and will truly give your home an exotic feel.

The World is a Smaller Place

We are exposed to so many diverse styles, by way of the internet, or through our own travel experiences. Start by exploring what is available, we can see different cultures and luxurious styles from countries all over the world. Being open to new ideas, we can easily find what is exciting and new. It’s a matter of being motivated to find what is available while opening ourselves to the possibilities! Improve

Paint Offers New Opportunities

A second way of adding your own sense of style, is to explore different paint finishes while you are planning your décor. Metallic finishes add a sparkle to the room or even a romantic shimmer for rooms that you enjoy with softer lighting. Paint companies offer new products that range from a pearl finish to a high metallic. My suggestion is to sample the products and to use them sparingly. Sometimes the more minimal surprise in a design is the most successful!

Accents and Decorative Elements

Add unique elements to your home to grasp the light and add texture to your room. The beaded placemats in the photo are the perfect example. Used the same way as a simple cloth fabric under your table setting, the beaded design brings in an exotic flair adding excitement into the room. Beaded elements can be added in everything from napkin rings to trim for table linens. Edging on window treatments can also catch the light beautifully.

Architectural Details

With the opportunity to be influenced by décor from all over the world, we can pick and choose what we would like to add to our home. Architectural details like decorative moldings offer a simple way to change the style of a room. Reshape the inside of a window or archway; add paneling to a hallway or stairwell, the right trim can instantly add a Moroccan flair. A little research in the area for visual reference can go a long way!

Make it Plush for an Exotic Flair!

Finally, adding unique furniture can add a fun and plush splash of color to your décor. Cushions on the floor, poufs in colorful fabrics, woven textiles, this will give your home a whole new look. Because these fabrics are made with saturated colors, they can be irresistible! Adding textures like jute, sisal or woven materials will add more of a global feel. Finally, don’t be afraid to try something new! These additions to your home can be small, but they will certainly add brilliant color to your design!

There are so many ways to change up your home by adding a few simple elements. Choose the decorative element that is right for you, and go for it! My suggestion is to try focusing on one room first, and see it all the way through before you branch out to other areas of your home.

Finally, our homes are more important to us that ever. Create a colorful and exotic space, have fun with it and make it your own. You might find that you love this whole new style and the your home becomes the place you are thrilled to come home to!
