Inspiration is something we all experience at one time or another. It can come from something we see that is exciting or a story that sets our imagination on fire. Inspiration could also be something that awakens your senses. It can be a visual, a smell, or a taste that can excite your creative side.
What is fascinating about inspiration is that the simplest little thing can ignite our imagination. If you are a writer, it might be overhearing a personal story. What you’ve heard could provide inspiration to redirect the plot of something you are writing. If you are an artist, you might see a beautiful sunset and you are inspired to put it to paper or on a canvas.
If you are a designer you might want to take the colors you just experienced and use them in your home or in a design you are creating for a client. Sometimes you don’t even know how you will apply the inspiration, recognizing the value in what motivated you, is part of the process.
It was meant to be.
What as always fascinated me is a desire to define the event and justify it. If beautiful flowers are planted in a garden nearby, and you love the color palette of a neighbor’s garden, you might say the color combinations are there quite by accident, and it was meant to be. You might find clothes from your closet to wear, by picking what is light enough to wear on an unexpectedly warm day and find that they go together beautifully. One might say it was just a coincidence. The truth is, you have to be open to recognizing new ideas, new ways of doing things. By being open-minded you will find what inspires you.
New experiences create new inspiration.
There are also times when you find that the world around you inspires you. You can be on vacation and find the pool water blue catches your eye like it never has before. Another example can be hiking on the mountains, and you are thrilled by the sunlight as it comes through the trees. Having something catch your eye that is as simple as the brilliant greens that are lit up on the forest floor from the ray of sunshine that shines through the leaves. Being in new places, invites new inspiration.
What is happening is that you are opening yourself up to new occurrences, new experiences. By doing that you will find opportunities that tickle your senses, which inspire you. New experiences create unique forms of inspiration.
The moment it happens.
The beauty of inspiration is that it can strike unexpectedly. It can appear out of nowhere or be a moment of joy when an idea jumps into your head. I have found something inspiring to be truly exciting. A moment of satisfaction as if you have been looking for that exact idea for a very long time, and then it suddenly appears.
Act upon your experience!
Inspiration is only the first step in the creative process. Acting on it, is what takes the idea and makes it a success. It is as if the inspiration can show you the road to your destination, but it is up to you to take the first step, to go down that road!
Finally, open yourself up to what inspires you. Many of us are creatures of habit. We take the same roads, follow the same routines day in day out. My goal, is to motivate you to open up your mind to new inspiration. Take a different path, express your desire to try something new and see where it takes you.
Let the world around you inspire you! According to an article on inspiration by the Harvard Business Review (https://hbr.org/2011/11/why-inspiration-matters) inspiration can improve your outlook on life. People that are open to trying new experiences, “are more open to inspiration are more likely to experience it. “
I definitely think inspiration is good for your health. Find the experiences that excite you and let them motivate you to go on a new journey, a new adventure.
To take advantage of inspiration, it is important to set up the circumstances for new opportunities. Whether it is a sight, a smell or a color that inspires you, any creative idea can take you on a new path. Find and capture what inspires you, it just might be the best adventure of your life!
