One of the reasons that I find color so fascinating is that it affects people every day of their lives. Where you live or your home office is not only a reflection of your personality, but it can influence your moods and your thoughts. This is all about making your home office a place your want to spend time in, all day long!
Certain colors tend to affect people in similar ways, but varying the tones and combining colors is where you can get really creative and let your personality shine. Since this is your personal space, you should certainly use your favorite colors, but you can raise the bar by adding your preferred colors in unexpected places, in pleasing combinations.
Here are a few ideas for adding color to your home office:
Surround yourself with artwork!
Artwork can come from anywhere; from famous artists to young children. It’s a great way to inspire you and lift your spirits. It can also be a way of including in your home office creative pieces from people you love. Add in artwork that is from your children, or a print or painting of a fine artist you have always admired. Choose a colorful piece that makes you smile and it will add creativity to your workspace.
Add visuals to improve your work flow.
Rather than having a pile of papers on your desk, attach clipboards to your wall and create visuals for every category you work in. Do you have a daily to do list? Make a clipboard for it. Do you have clients you want to keep track of? Make a special place for all of their information so no one gets lost in a pile of papers. Organize your work related topics in a visual way, and of course add color wherever you can!
Use colorful tools!
Buying a stapler, pens for your desk or even a desk lamp? Make them colorful! We often fall back on buying what we think are the colors of a professional office, (lots of gray and black) but the truth is you can buy office products in a variety of brilliant colors these days.
Choose your colors wisely!
If you will be surrounding yourself with color, think about the colors you choose. Colors that are too bright like a bright red or brilliant yellow, can be distracting and interfere with your work. Colors that are too monochromatic might zap your energy and make the room less exciting to be in.
On the other hand, colors that are serene and calming can be soothing, easy to be in and can help you relax. My suggestion is to choose colors you would like to spend time in, colors that make you smile!
Look for inspiration
We are surrounded by inspiration in magazines, to stores that sell office products of all kinds. Take the time to create a home office that you can’t wait to get to every morning when you wake up. The trick is to make it a room that is fun to be in!
If you are looking for color inspiration look through the pre-made color themes in the Color911 app, or create your own color palette and use it as your guide. I created the app to help people explore color with confidence. Look for colors you are drawn to and consider them for the paint on your walls or for an upholstered piece in your office. The Color911 app will help you find colors you love, organize your color scheme, and you’ll be able to take a big picture approach.
Your home office is your personal space, make it your own with color! I hope you take the time to add color whether it is on your desk, on the decorative elements like rugs or window treatments or within the office supplies you use. Make your home office a fun place to be in and you enjoy your work that much more! I hope you’re inspired J
